A note is a combination of frequencies we can’t perceive yet are crucial to the sound that we hear. In the up and down movement of the main sound in the piece the harmonics (the sounds we don’t normally perceive), have been splayed out. These are the voices that we don’t hear. These are the theologies that are buried within. We assume truth has to be singular. But I think truth is like a musical note. We perceive a singularity but the note itself is a combination of several frequencies that intertwine.
This has parallels with the immensely creative doctrine of the Trinity. But what about us as humans? We seem to keep searching for singularity. We don’t like to hear the dissenting voices. We find it difficult with the other. But the genius of Jesus is to reach out to the other. And weave us all together into a glorious sonorous chord.
